Alicante - Town of the light

Alicante-photos

Settled by Iberians, Phoeniciens, Greeks, Romans and Moors the city of Alicante has an extremely interesting history, which takes the beginning 324 b.C. with the town foundation by the Greeks as Akra Leuke. This name, city of the light, continues remaining all following epochs whether as Lucentum by the Romans, who conquered the city around 201 b.C. or with the Moors, whose rule lasted from 718 to 1249, as Al lucant. This name will often been seen also today, in one of its ways of writing, in the town.

Today Alicante presents itself as modern, world-open city, with all possibilities for the organization of a pleasant life. The infrastructures are good, the road system is relatively modern and developed (small streets in the surrounding countryside excluded) and there is also a widespread leisure offer with golf courses, riding sites and swimming pools, in order to mention only a small selection here.
